Aberdeen FC have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfield player Paul Sheerin.

Scottish Premier League side Aberdeen FC have strengthened their squad with the signing of midfield player Paul Sheerin from first division Ayr United FC.

Pair reunited
Aberdeen manager Steve Paterson moved to sign Sheerin having previously worked with the player while in charge of Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC, who he left last month along with assistant Duncan Shearer. Sheerin will link up with fellow new Aberdeen signing Steve Tosh in the club's trip to Portugal for the Algarve Winter Cup.

'One of the best'
"Paul is one of the best passers of the ball in the first division, has a great left foot and is an excellent dead-ball specialist," Paterson said. "He is also a proven goalscorer. He is at an age when he's hitting the peak of his career and I'm sure he will be an excellent addition to my squad here.''

'Suits my style'
Sheerin added: "Having worked for Steve and Duncan Shearer, I know their football philosophy. They have always believed in positive attacking football which I like to think suits my style of play. Having the chance to play at the top level is something no player wants to turn down so it goes without saying that I am delighted to be here.''

Money disappointed
Ayr manager Campbell Money said: "I am very disappointed to lose him because I love him as a player. He is also a really nice lad and I wish him all the best. He is certainly got the ability to play in the Premier League without a shadow of a doubt and I hope he is a big success.''

Ninth place
Aberdeen are currently ninth in the Premier League, seven points ahead of bottom club Dundee United FC, but have held both Rangers FC and Celtic FC to draws this season.
