Members

South African George Koumantarakis has left FC Basel for English first division side Preston North End FC.

George Koumantarakis has joined English first division side Preston North End FC, a day after FC Basel announced that they expected the striker to leave Switzerland before the end of the season.

On the periphery
The 29-year-old has been on the periphery of the Basel first team this term, playing just six minutes of UEFA Champions League football as Christian Giménez and Julio Hernán Rossi cemented themselves as Christian Gross's preferred striking partnership.

World Cup appearances
A South African international who played in all of his country's 2002 FIFA World Cup matches, Koumantarakis has signed a short-term contract at Preston for an undisclosed fee with the option of a full-time contract if he impresses manager Craig Brown, a former coach of Scotland.
