Article body
Marco Delvecchio scored a first-half hat-trick as AS Roma beat Serie B club Vicenza Calcio 6-3 in an entertaining Italian Cup quarter-final second-leg match this evening to set up a derby meeting with S.S. Lazio in the last four.
Neat back-heel
Roma, who led 2-1 from last week's first leg, suffered an early setback when Brazilian midfield player Jeda fired Vicenza ahead in the fifth minute with a low drive. Fabio Capello's side, struggling in mid-table in Serie A, responded five minutes later when Francesco Totti put in Delvecchio with a neat back-heel and the Roma striker made no mistake.
Inspirational Totti
Totti was again the inspiration behind Delvecchio's second in the 21st minute and the long-haired forward's hat-trick strike in the 37th minute, an accomplished finish following Totti's clever reverse pass. Totti again exposed the gaps in the Vicenza defence two minutes later with a through-ball to Emerson which the Brazilian midfield player took full advantage of with a confident strike.
Hope for Vicenza
Vicenza pulled one back on the stroke of half-time when Stefan Schwoch was brought down by Roma goalkeeper Francesco Antonioli and the former SSC Napoli forward rose to convert the spot-kick. The visitors narrowed the gap further in the 75th minute with Claudio Rivalta scoring from close range after good work from Schwoch, but once again Vicenza's hopes of a comeback were short-lived.
Rout completed
Emerson made it 5-3 after a well-timed run on to a chip from substitute Antonio Cassano and Cafu completed the rout, and an 8-4 aggregate victory, three minutes from the end from the penalty spot.
