Republic of Ireland round-up: Shelbourne setback
Wednesday, January 8, 2003
Article summary
Shelbourne FC's chances of winning the title look slim following a draw against Longford Town FC on Tuesday.
Article body
Shelbourne FC squandered an opportunity to increase the pressure on leaders Bohemian FC by only drawing 1-1 at home to struggling Longford Town FC last night.
Title showdown looms
Shelbourne's failure to win leaves them four points from the summit with just three games of the shortened season remaining and means Bohemians will win the championship if they win the sides' showdown at Tolka Park on Sunday.
First for Francis
Sean Francis put Longford in front after 13 minutes with his first goal for the club following his summer move from Shamrock Rovers FC. Shelbourne equalised five minutes before half-time through defender Jim Gannon but despite constant pressure, they failed to find a winning goal after the break.
