ESM Golden Shoe: Vieri hits top gear

Members

Internazionale FC striker Christian Vieri hit a hat-trick to move up to fifth in the standings.

Internazionale FC striker Christian Vieri stole the limelight from debutant Gabriel Batistuta at the weekend and moved up to fifth in the ESM Golden Shoe standings.

Three goals
Although Batistuta earned all the pre-match headlines before his Inter debut, Vieri was the man in the spotlight afterwards following his hat-trick against Empoli FC. The 3-0 victory moved his side up to second in Serie A.

Ailton scores again
Vieri was able to close the gap on Thierry Henry, whose Arsenal FC side were in FA Cup action. Another challenger to find the net this weekend was SV Werder Bremen striker Ailton, who scored in his side's 2-2 draw with DSC Arminia Bielefeld.

Only the leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have 2 as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other countries.

A player cannot first play in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
