The highly rated 20-year-old will play for Artur Jorge's team for the rest of the season after Académica agreed a six-month deal with the defending Super Liga champions.

It took a personal plea from Jorge to Sporting coach Laszlo Bölöni to secure the transfer of a player who impressed during a series of substitute appearances earlier in the campaign. The highlight for Martins came when he created the winning goal for Cristiano Ronaldo in Sporting's victory at FC Boavista in October.
Debut chance
The youngster could make his debut in the home game against CF Os Belenenses on Friday. Académica are currently third from bottom of the Super Liga with just three wins from 17 matches.
