Article body
Danish international striker Peter Madsen has joined VfL Wolfsburg from Brøndby IF for a fee in the region of €2m.
Wonderful season
The 24-year-old had been involved in protracted negotiations with the 1. Bundesliga club but finally signed a three-year contract today after weeks of talks. Madsen enjoyed a wonderful 2001/02 campaign, scoring 22 goals in 31 games to fire Brøndby to the Danish championship and earn himself a place in his country's FIFA World Cup squad.
Tipped for stardom
Madsen was tipped for stardom at a young age having scored Danish football's goal of the 1996/97 season at the age of 18 for Vejle BK. The strike helped earn him a place in Denmark's Under-21 fold and he marked his debut with another fine strike, this time against Bosnia-Herzegovina, in a qualifying match for the 1997 UEFA European Under-21 Championship.
Path blocked
Madsen's move to Germany will allow him to compete directly in the Bundesliga goalscoring stakes with one of the men currently blocking his path to a regular starting berth for his country, FC Schalke 04 striker Ebbe Sand. Wolfsburg, who stand eleventh in the 18-team division, recently signed Pablo Thiam from FC Bayern München and defender Pablo Quatrocchi from Club Estudiantes de La Plata.
