England round-up: Tottenham frustrated by Fulham

Tottenham Hotspur FC missed the chance to go sixth in the Premiership on Monday after Fulham FC earned a 1-1 draw in a pulsating London derby at White Hart Lane.

Goalkeeper dismissed
A Ledley King own goal handed Fulham a 15th-minute lead but the visitors were reduced to ten men when goalkeeper Maik Taylor was sent off for bringing down Simon Davies. Teddy Sheringham scored from the resulting penalty to draw Tottenham level five minutes before half-time.

Amazing miss
An amazing close-range miss from Milenko Acimovic let Fulham off the hook midway through the second-half, before Spurs midfield player Darren Anderton was dismissed on 73 minutes for a second yellow card. Louis Saha then almost won it for Fulham but his fierce drive cannoned against the crossbar.

'Frustrating night'
The point leaves Tottenham in eighth position on 43 points. Manager Glenn Hoddle felt his side did enough to win the game. "It was a frustrating night for all for us," he said. "We weren't at our best. We had the break from Teddy's penalty and we should have gone on from there. At half-time we said we mustn't switch off but we didn't come out of the traps and be ruthless enough and that is where we ended up not winning the game."

'Good stuff'
The result moves 15th-placed Fulham a point further away from the relegation zone, though Luis Boa Morte, who played a major part in King's own goal, felt it was his side who were hard done by. "After Maik was sent off we kept battling and we survived, but it was really difficult conditions today," he said. "We played some good stuff and should have scored more than one goal - I think we deserved more than a point."
