Dutch strugglers RBC Roosendaal have brought back former coach Robert Maaskant seven months after he left in the hope he can maintain their top-flight status.
Dekker sacked
The Eredivisie side turned to Maaskant after sacking Chris Dekker in January. The club had experienced a disappointing run of form in the first half of the season and then lost 3-0 at PSV Eindhoven last Friday in their first game after the winter break.
Two promotions
Maaskant, 34, left Roosendaal in the summer after leading the side to their second promotion in three years. However, rather than lead his team in the top flight, he then decided to take up a job with second division Go Ahead Eagles.
Last-minute hitch
His move back nearly did not happen though as Roosendaal had initially failed to match the compensation demanded for his release. The deal seemed off until sponsors came to the club's rescue and enabled them to reach a suitable settlement.
Libregts chance
With all parties satisfied, Maaskant has signed a contract that lasts until summer 2004. His former assistant Raymond Libregts, son of former Netherlands coach Thijs Libregts, will replace him at Eagles.
Points needed
Roosendaal, 15th in the Eredivisie, are only three points above the relegation zone with just 16 points from 18 games. Maaskant will feel they have a good opportunity to collect some points this Saturday when they play host to joint-bottom side De Graafschap.
