Cagni lands Piacenza role

Members

Piacenza FC have sacked coach Andrea Agostinelli and named former boss Luigi Cagni as his replacement.

Home subsidence
Agostinelli was fired in the wake of Saturday's 4-1 home defeat by Brescia Calcio. Piacenza have taken just two points from their last eight matches and are third from bottom of Serie A with 13 points.

Serial sackings
Agostinelli becomes the fourth managerial casualty of the 2002/03 Serie A season, following the departures of Giancarlo Camolese from Torino Calcio, Bortolo Mutti from Reggina Calcio and Loris Dominissini from Como Calcio.

History man
The new man at the helm, Cagni, returns for a second stint as Piacenza coach. During his first spell, between 1990 and 1996, he led the team from Serie C to Serie A for the first time in their history.

Sampdoria settlement
Cagni has been under contract with Sampdoria UC this season despite being sacked as coach by the Serie B club last term. But after reaching a financial settlement with the Genoa-based club, he has been confirmed as Piacenza boss for the rest of the campaign.
