Article body
German 1. Bundesliga side FC Schalke 04 will be without striker Gerald Asamoah for several weeks due to a groin surgery.
Groin surgery
The 24-year-old German international will be operated on this Friday by Professor Matthias Kemen, who performed a similar procedure on the player two years ago. If the Ghana-born forward recovers well he could be back in training in two weeks' time.
Break 'did not work'
"We have decided to let him undergo surgery because a conservative therapy with a training break did not work out in an adequate way," said Schalke team doctor Thorsten Rarreck.
Friendly date
Due to the operation Asamoah, who has played 18 league matches this season and scored twice, will miss Germany's international friendly against Spain on 12 February in Mallorca.
