A Metalurh spokesman today confirmed the transfer has gone through, even though the club's official website denied reports of a move for Demetradze last week. "The negotiations needed to be confidential, and that is why we were not rushing the news through," said a statement on the website.
Summer break
Demetradze will link up with his new teammates next Sunday. The 26-year-old, who was a Ukrainian league and cup winner with FC Dynamo Kyiv in 2000, is due to stay with Metalurh until 30 June. He joined Sociedad two years ago, in January 2001, but found first-team opportunities hard to come by and subsequently lost his place in the national side.
Scoring form
Demetradze has represented his country 22 times, scoring four goals. His previous clubs include FC Dinamo Tbilisi, FC Alania Vladikavkaz and FC Lokomotiv Moskva. He was the Russian Premier Liga's top scorer with Alania in 1999.
