SC Heerenveen's former Danish Under-21 international Jesper Håkansson has joined Viborg FF on loan.
Relegation battle
The Superliga strugglers have recruited Håkansson for the remainder of the season as they look to avoid relegation from the Danish top flight. The 21-year-old midfield player will gain valuable first-team experience back in his home country.
Attacking alternatives
Viborg coach Søren Kusk is in need of new attacking alternatives after striker Steffen Højer joined Odense BK earlier this year. Håkansson, who scored five goals in 13 games for Heerenveen last season, was his first-choice replacement. The midfield player joined Heerenveen from BK Frem København in 1999.
Danish contingent
Håkansson signed a contract at Heerenveen until 2005 during the summer but has not featured in coach Foppe de Haan's first-team plans this season. However, the youngster's departure will not end Danish involvement at the Friesland club, who also have Allan Bak Jensen and Daniel Jensen in their squad.
New blood
Indeed Heerenveen's Danish contingent may yet increase as the club are taking a close interest in the progress of 16-year-old AGF Århus striker Bo Storm. The youngster has already been on trial twice at Heerenveen and is expected to be offered a contract lasting until 2006.
Sought-after youngster
However, plenty of other clubs have expressed an interest in Storm, including Chelsea FC, Southampton FC, Feyenoord, PSV Eindhoven, Lille OSC and FC Nantes Atlantique.
