Shalom waves goodbye

Eitan Shalom has agreed to step down as coach of Israeli Premier League strugglers Hapoel Ironi Rishon after the side recorded their eighth successive league defeat.

Having watched his charges reap just one point from their last eleven games and sink to the bottom of the table Shalom, who spent his entire playing career at the Rishon Le-Zion-based club, agreed a pay-off believed to be in the region of €19,000 to terminate his contract.

Youth team coach Ziv Palgi has been appointed as caretaker coach for the senior side although Eyal Lahman is considered a key contender for the vacant role on a permanent basis.
