Glenavon FC have named Alfie Wylie as their new manager in succession to Colm Malone.

Glenavon FC have named Alfie Wylie as their new manager in succession to Colm Malone, who was sacked after the side moved into the bottom two of the Northern Irish Premier Division at the weekend.

Terms agreed
Wylie agreed terms to take over the job with directors of the Lurgan club on Tuesday evening and will leave his post as assistant manager of top-flight club Coleraine FC. Wylie has been involved with three clubs this season; he started the campaign as manager of Newry Town FC but resigned during the autumn after a slow start to the season.

Unbeaten run
Wylie, previously manager at successful second division side Loughgall FC, recently helped Coleraine embark on a 17-match unbeaten run. His first game in charge will be an Irish Cup match on Saturday away to first division Limavady United FC. Wylie is known for his excellent youth development work and ability to work on a limited budget.

Malone success
His predecessor Malone enjoyed remarkable success in his first season in charge at Glenavon, taking over in August 2000 when the club only had four senior players on their books before building a team that finished second in the league at the end of that season. But the side slipped to seventh last season and struggled early on in this campaign, prompting Glenavon chairman Adrian Teer to sack Malone and move for Wylie.
