ESM Golden Shoe: Vieri on the up

Members

Internazionale FC striker Christian Vieri is the new leader after scoring against AC Chievo Verona.

Internazionale FC striker Christian Vieri moved to the top of the ESM Golden Shoe standings at the weekend after striking his 19th league goal of the season.

Consolation for Vieri
Although his side slipped to a 2-1 defeat by AC Chievo Verona, Vieri's goal means that he now has a total of 38 points, one more than Andrei Krõlov of FC TVMK Tallinn, whose total cannot be added to as the Estonian league season is over. With Arsenal FC in action in the FA Cup, third-placed Thierry Henry could not add to his points tally, while Celtic FC’s Henrik Larsson is currently injured, having suffered a broken jaw last weekend.

Kezman hits three
Mateja Kezman of PSV Eindhoven moved up four places to sixth position with a hat-trick in his side’s 6-0 win at home to FC Zwolle, while RC  Deportivo La Coruña’s Dutch striker Roy Makaay scored his 16th goal of the season and is one point behind Kezman on 32.

Mutu on target
Adrian Mutu of Parma AC was the other big mover of the weekend, climbing 16 places to 15th after he scored his side’s only goal in the 2-1 loss to Juventus FC.

Only the leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have 2 as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other countries.

A player cannot first play in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
