ESM Golden Shoe: Premier strikers on song

Members

Thierry Henry, James Beattie and Alan Shearer all scored at the weekend to stay in the hunt.

Vieri on top
Although Internazionale FC's Christian Vieri strengthened his position at the top with goals 20 and 21 of a prolific season in the Nerazzurri's 3-1 victory over Piacenza FC, Arsenal FC forward Henry remains close behind after hitting his 19th goal as the English leaders won 5-1 at Manchester City FC.

Shearer seals it
Beattie, meanwhile, is seventh after scoring his 17th of the season in Southampton FC's 2-1 defeat at Everton FC, with Shearer in joint-ninth position after heading Newcastle United FC's third goal in the 3-0 defeat of Leeds United AFC.

Makaay double
Of the main challengers from Spain's Primera División, Roy Makaay struck twice in RC Deportivo La Coruña's 6-0 thrashing of Deportivo Alavés and is now in fourth place with 18 goals.

Kovacevic climbs
Darko Kovacevic's goal in leaders Real Sociedad's 2-0 defeat of Club Atlético Osasuna 2-0 lifted him to joint-16th place with 12 goals to his name - a position shared with a number of players, including FC Bayern Munchen's Giovane Elber, Manchester City FC's Nicolas Anelka and VfB Stuttgart's Kevin Kuranyi who were also on target over the weekend.

Only the leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have 2 as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other countries.

A player cannot first play in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
