Barry Town AFC top the table after TNS Llansantffraid FC's 2-0 home defeat by Caernarfon Town FC.

Barry Town AFC rose to the top of the League of Wales on Saturday without playing following TNS Llansantffraid FC's astonishing 2-0 home defeat at the hands of struggling Caernarfon Town FC.

Caught cold
Llansantffraid, who had occupied top spot since September, were caught cold at the Recreation Ground as Chris Moores and Carl Rodgers scored Caernarfon's goals either side of half-time to inflict the home side's first defeat of the season and send them below Barry on goals scored. Llansantffraid still have two games in hand over the new leaders.

Rash of spot-kicks
Third-placed Bangor City FC took advantage of Llansantffraid's slip by edging out Afan Lido FC 2-1 at Farrar Road. Simon Davies was the hero, keeping his cool to score from the penalty spot on 12 and 75 minutes. The visitors' Kevin Bartley had grabbed an equaliser - also from the spot - on 64 minutes but the game was overshadowed by the red card shown to Bangor manager Peter Davenport for protesting at the sending off of Alan Goodall after the foul whixh led to Bartley's goal.

McGinn's tonic
Rhyl FC moved into contention for a UEFA InterToto Cup place by defeating Welshpool Town AFC 2-0 thanks to first-half goals from Leo Atherton and Chris McGinn. At the foot of the table, basement-club Llanelli FC slumped to their 17th defeat of the season, a 3-2 reverse against Aberystwyth Town FC at Stebonheath Park.

Four-star Caersws
Elsewhere, Cwmbran Town FC drew 0-0 with Oswestry Town FC and Carmarthen Town were beaten 4-1 by Caersws FC, for whom Colin Reynolds, Graham Evans, Kevin Scott and Andy Marsell were on target.

Mutton boon
In the weekend's other games, Flexsys Cefn Druids AFC overwhelmed Newtown AFC 3-0 and Connah's Quay Nomads FC were all smiles at Port Talbot Town FC's Victoria Road as they won 1-0 - Tommy Mutton getting the decisive strike.
