Riding high
The Katowice team faced extinction last year but the Dospel company came to the rescue by agreeing to sponsor the three-times Polish Cup winners, investing heavily in the ailing club. Coached by Jan Zurek, they are currently second in the Polish First Division, two points behind leaders Wisla Kraków.
Past achievements
Founded in 1964, they have been runners-up in the Polish First Division on four occasions and won the Super Cup twice. As GKS, they reached the third round of the UEFA Cup in 1994, eliminating Aris Thessaloniki FC and FC Girondins de Bordeaux before coming unstuck against Bayer 04 Leverkusen.
