UEFA investigates spitting allegations

Cases

UEFA will examine allegations that Liverpool FC's El Hadji Diouf spat at Celtic FC fans.

UEFA is to investigate allegations that Liverpool FC’s Senegalese international El Hadji Diouf spat at Celtic FC fans in last night’s UEFA Cup quarter-final first-leg match in Glasgow.

Awaiting reports
European football’s governing body said today that it would await official reports on the alleged incident, and would also study video evidence before deciding whether to take any action ahead of next week’s second leg.

January case
In January, UEFA imposed a four-match ban on RC Celta de Vigo midfield player Peter Luccin for spitting at an opponent during the Spanish club’s UEFA Cup third round, second-leg match against Celtic FC on 12 December.

Match drawn
Last night's encounter at Celtic Park ended in a 1-1 draw, with Emile Heskey’s leveller after 16 minutes cancelling out Celtic’s early lead given them by Swedish international Henrik Larsson. The second leg takes place at Anfield next Thursday.
