Bulgarian chairman murdered

Members

The chairman of Bulgarian Premier League side PFC Cherno More Varna, Ilia Pavlov, has been shot dead.

Majority shareholder
Pavlov, the majority shareholder of MG-Group, the company that owns Cherno More, was rushed to hospital by ambulance but was pronounced dead on arrival at the emergency unit in Pirogov. The news was confirmed by the country's minister for internal affairs, Georgi Petkanov.

CSKA success
Pavlov bought a controlling interest in Cherno More in the summer of 2001, having previously been involved with PFC CSKA Sofia. He was CSKA chairman between 1995 and 1999, before he was ousted in an election by former Bulgarian international Luboslav Penev. He did, however, oversee the club's last title success in 1996/97, when CSKA won a league and cup double.
