Early retirement for Pehrsson

Members

Djurgårdens IF club captain Magnus Pehrsson has been forced to retire with a knee injury at the age of 26.

Heartfelt message
After spending last season on the sidelines, Pehrsson attempted a comeback during Djurgården's pre-season tour of China yet has since been forced to accept that the problem will not go away. "I don't know what will happen now or in the future but I want to work in football and hopefully I'll be able to do that with Djurgården, the club of my heart," he said.

Key figure
Pehrsson was a key figure in Djurgården's first season back in the Allsvenskan following promotion, in 2001. However, he subsequently missed the Stockholm club's 2002 championship-winning campaign because of chronic knee trouble.

'Bitter feeling'
Djurgården chairman Bo Lundqvist said of a player whose hardworking style had endeared him to supporters: "Of course it is sad for Djurgården. It's a bitter feeling, especially when you consider that the injury came at a point when Magnus was selected for the national squad and was in absolute top form."
