Halmstads BK striker Robert Andersson will miss the start of the Swedish season following surgery.

Halmstads BK striker Robert Andersson will be out of action for a month after injuring his calf.

Blocked arteries
The experienced forward was accidentally kicked in the calf during a friendly match against Ljungby IF on Saturday. The blow caused a blockage in his arteries, and he was taken to hospital for immediate surgery.

Hospital stay
The 32-year old, who scored seven goals in 23 matches last season, will stay in hospital for three to four days and then begin his rehabilitiation. However, it is already certain that he will miss the start of the Swedish season.

'Huge setback'
"I feel really sorry for Robert as he's looked very lively and has worked hard," said Halmstad coach Jonas Thern. "He will almost certainly be out for a couple of months and that is a huge setback for us." Halmstad kick off their Allsvenskan campaign on 7 April against GIF Sundsvall.
