Alavés suffer Magno blow

Deportivo Alavés striker Magno Mocelin could be out for six weeks after tearing a knee ligament.

Deportivo Alavés striker Magno Mocelin faces six weeks on the sidelines after tests revealed he tore a knee ligament in Sunday's league game against Real Sociedad.

Ligament damage
Magno limped out of the Basque derby defeat in San Sebastián with suspected ligament damage. However, the club's worst fears were realised when a scan showed that he had ruptured a lateral ligament in his left knee.

No surgery required
Although the injury does not require surgery, the 29-year-old will miss Alavés's next six league games - against FC Barcelona, Sevilla FC, RCD Mallorca, RC Recreativo de Huelva and Málaga CF.

Relegation worries
Magno joins fellow forward Adrian Ilie on the absentee list at Mendizorroza. The Romanian international is out of action for three weeks with a leg injury. The 3-1 loss to Real left Alavés in 17th position in Spain's Primera División, two points off the relegation places.
