Poenaru steps down at Ceahlaul

FC Ceahlaul Piatra Neamt have agreed to terminate coach Gheorghe Poenaru's contract.

'Too much pressure'
Club president Gheorghe Stefan agreed to terminate the 46-year-old's contract following last weekend's defeat against the league's bottom side FC UTA Arad. "There has been too much pressure over the past few months so it was in everyone's best interests that I left," said Poenaru who had complained ahead of the winter break that the team needed reinforcements.

Financial problems
The financial problems at the club had become so severe that Ceahaul were the only side in the top flight who could not afford to hold a warm-weather training camp. Stefan accepted that factors such as these had led to Poenaru’s resignation. "Poenaru is not the only guilty party," he said. "I have to accept responsibility as well."

Former coach
Caehaul are currently 13th in the table, just one point above the relegation zone. Former coach Viorel Hizo, who left FC Farul Constanta in December, and CF Gloria Bistrita 1922 coach Constantin Carstea have both been named as possible successors to Poenaru.
