Branko Smiljanić has resigned as FK Sutjeska coach after a disagreement with the club.

Branko Smiljanić has unexpectedly resigned as coach of FK Sutjeska after a disagreement with the club's board.

Conflicts to stay private
Smiljanić, whose team defeated FK Zemun 1-0 at the weekend, refused to go into the details behind his decision. “I do not have the power to deal with numerous problems," he said. "I do not want to elaborate, but I am in a very difficult position. Any conflicts have to stay private as this is in the best interest of the club. I hope Sutjeska keep up their brilliant performances."

Surprise package
Indeed, it has been a superb season for Sutjeska who have surprised many observers with a run of results which has seen them climb to fifth in the Serbo-Montenegrin Prva Savezna Liga.

Search for a replacement
"We will find a solution for the head coach position as soon as possible and we will not allow unrest in our club," said a short Sutjeska statement following Smiljanić's departure. Smiljanić was formerly coach of FK Milicionar and second division FK Borac. He also took charge of the Jordan national team before joining Sutjeska last summer on a one-year contract.
