Prague talks
The Madeira-based club had been linked with Agostinho Oliveira, John Toshack and Mirko Jozic after they parted company with Nelo Vingada ten days ago, but opted for Bishovets following talks in Prague.
Second in command
Former SL Benfica and FC Porto forward Rui Águas has been named as assistant coach. "I wouldn't normally be anyone's No2 but then I considered the standing of Marítimo's first choice for the job [Bishovets]," said Águas, who has managerial experience with Vitória Setúbal.
Relegation threat
Ukrainian Bishovets was in charge of Russia's gold-winning squad at the 1988 Olympic Games before taking the reigns of the CIS national team between 1990 and '92, and Russia in 1998. His new side are in 13th place in the SuperLiga, three points off the relegation zone.
