Nouzaret to return to Montpellier

Members

Montpellier Hérault SC have announced that former coach Robert Nouzaret will return at the end of the season.

Struggling Montpellier Hérault SC have appointed Robert Nouzaret for a second spell in charge of the Ligue 1 club and have announced that the coach will replace current trainer Gérard Bernardet at the end of the season.

Difficult conditions
Nouzaret was coach of the Ivory Coast until the end of last year, before it became clear that the civil war which started in the African country in September 2002 is certain to complicate the nations’s chances of qualifying for the FIFA World Cup in 2006.

Bastia sacking
The 60-year-old also had a spell as the coach of the country in the late 1990s before joining AS Saint-Etienne in 2000. He moved to SC Bastia the following season, where he was dismissed despite leading the Corsican club to the final of the French Cup.

Montpellier return
Nouzaret is already familiar with Montpellier as he played for them in the 1970s and returned to the side as coach between 1991 and 1996. The team currently lie in 17th place in the table, just one point above the relegation zone.
