Threshold broken
The incident was captured on television and after analysing the footage, the Scottish Football Association (SFA) handed out a two-match ban, effective immediately. But the additional 12 points added to Amoruso's disciplinary record take him over the threshold for a further two-match ban, which will follow straight afterwards.
Cup blow
Although Amoruso has the right to appeal against the punishment, the player seems certain to miss the next three Scottish Premier League games as well as the Scottish Cup quarter-final against Dunfermline Athletic FC at East End Park.
Jefferies banned
The SFA have also handed Kilmarnock FC manager Jim Jefferies a four-match touchline ban for abusive language towards the referee during his side's 1-0 Scottish Cup third-round defeat at home against Motherwell FC on 25 January.
