Article body
Great run
The Italy striker scored both goals in the 4-0 victory against Como Calcio at the San Siro to make it 23 goals for the season in Serie A. Vieri is in a good run of form, having opened his account in the 2002/03 UEFA Champions League last Wednesday in the 2-2 draw with Newcastle United FC.
Close behind
Roy Makaay, the RC Deportivo La Coruña forward, is still the closest challenger to Vieri, having scored once in the 2-0 Primera División victory against Rayo Vallecano on Saturday. In England, Southampton FC striker James Beattie's goal in the 2-2 draw with Fulham FC saw him join Arsenal FC's Thierry Henry in third. Another English-based striker, Alan Shearer, entered the top ten after his penalty for Newcastle United FC in the 2-0 win at Charlton Athletic FC.
Chasing pack
Elsewhere, Brazilian Giovane Elber scored for FC Bayern München to join compatriot Ailton, of SV Werder Bremen, in 13th position. Pierre van Hooijdonk's double for Feyenoord saw him become the biggest mover of the week, jumping ten places to 17th.

Only the leading five countries (Spain, Italy, Germany, France and England) on the UEFA Ranking have 2 as their multiplier. This is to emphasise the difference in (international) performance level between the clubs from those countries and those from the other countries.
A player cannot first play in a summer league (e.g. Norway) and then in a winter league (e.g. Spain) and combine the points total for each season.
