Turkey round-up: Martin shocks Galatasaray

Members

Ersen Martin scored as Denizlispor dented Galatasaray SK's title hopes with a surprise 1-0 win.

On a night when the Turkish Super League caught up on postponed fixtures, Denizlispor sprang a surprise by beating second-placed Galatasaray SK 1-0 at the Ali Sami Yen stadium.

Martin the hero
Ersen Martin scored the only goal of the game on 61 minutes after Henrich Bencik had set him up from Peter Kabát's free-kick. The result leaves Galatasaray three points behind Besiktas JK, who now have a game in hand.

No cutting edge
Kocaelispor's chances of avoiding relegation are growing increasingly slim after their goalless home draw with Buraspor. The hosts did have the better of the play and dominated possession for long spells, but lacked cutting edge.

Elazigspor collapse
In the night's other game, Elazigspor lost 4-0 to Gaziantepspor in Gaziantep. After last weekend's 3-3 draw with Fenerbahçe SK, Elazigspor were thought to have turned a corner, but struggled from the start.

Günes strikes twice
Erdal Günes scored within the first minute and got a second on 51 minutes. With 14 minutes to go, Tunisian international Riadh Bouazizi made it 3-0, converting Alper Akici's cross from the right wing. Ilhan Özbay scored the fourth in added time to complete the rout.
