Santos sidelined for ten weeks

Helsingborgs IF have lost striker Alvaro Santos after one game of the new season with a knee injury.

Two goals
The Brazilian damaged knee ligaments after colliding with Valter Tomas in the 4-1 away win against Örgryte IS. Santos, who scored twice in the match, was initially feared to have suffered a more serious injury upon his arrival at hospital.

Good news
However, x-rays carried out last night showed that the damage was not as severe as first thought. "Had his knee ligament been torn, his season would have been over," said doctor Harald Roos. "This was actually quite good news."

Still positive
The 23-year-old was remaining upbeat despite the injury. "I have received tremendous support from the people close to me and from the fans, which has helped a lot," he said. "Of course I was worried about the extent of the injury and I am happy I can still get fit to make an impact for the side this season." Santos, who joined Helsingborg three seasons ago, has scored 33 goals in 61 games for the Swedish title favourites.
