Lillestrøm FK striker Uwe Rösler has revealed he is receiving treatment on a tumour.
Admitted to hospital
The 34-year-old, capped five times by the former German Democratic Republic, was admitted to an Oslo hospital over the Easter period for treatment on the tumour which is located between his heart and lung, but in a press release stated: "I will undergo treatment but the medical staff have informed me that the tumour has been discovered in its early stages and the prognosis for recovery is good."
'Most important game'
Rösler, who scored the only goal in Lillestrøm’s opening league game against FK Bodø/Glimt last Sunday, went on to say: "This comes as a shock to me and my family. I regard myself as a fighter and will do everything to win this, my most important game."
Settled in Norway
Rösler - who has played for 1. FC Dynamo Dresden, 1. FC Nürnberg, Manchester City FC, 1. FC Kaiserslautern, Tennis Borussia Berlin, Southampton FC and West Bromwich Albion FC - joined Lillestrøm from German 2. Bundesliga side SpVgg Unteraching last season and scored nine goals in ten matches. The German, who is married to a Norwegian and has two children, has one year left on his contract but plans to settle in the country to take up coaching.
