Kurtar quits Kocaelispor

Güvenç Kurtar has resigned as coach of the Turkish Super League's bottom club, Kocaelispor.

Güvenç Kurtar resigned as coach of Kocaelispor today, leaving the club five points adrift at the bottom of the Turkish Super League with only six games to play.

Temporary coach
Reserve team coach Yasar Kiyar has been named as his temporary replacement until a permanent appointment is made. "I have done all I can," said Kurtar, who took over from Hikmet Karaman in October, following his resignation. "Unfortunately we could not achieve the needed unity and motivation."

Kocaelispor slump
Kocaelispor fell to a 3-0 home defeat by Gaziantepspor on Sunday, their 19th loss in 28 matches, and they now trail Bursaspor and the final position of safety by seven points.

President resigns
The problems awaiting Kurtar's successor are compounded by the imminent resignation of the club president, Hikmet Erenkaya. Erenkaya recently announced that he was stepping down, but was persuaded to stay on until the club's general congress on 7 June. Erenkaya today stressed that he will not be attending any of the club's remaining matches this season.
