The former FC Jazz and Finnish international midfield player Jarmo Alatensiö has died aged 39.

Title winner
A skilful, imaginative player, Alatensiö spent 13 seasons in the top flight of Finnish football with the Pori-based club Jazz and their predecessor PTT. The highlight of his career came when he helped the team to the league championship in 1993 and 1996. In all, Alatensiö made 237 first-class appearances, scoring 42 goals. He also won 13 senior international caps for Finland.

Pori pride
Alatensiö is credited with playing an influential part in the rise of Pori football in the late 1980s and early 1990s. The local media in that city have described him as one of the best midfield players to have graced the Finnish Veikkausliiga or First Division.
