Article body
Malta international striker Michael Mifsud has signed a one-year contract extension with 1.Bundesliga side 1.FC Kaiserslautern.
Extended stay
The 21-year-old, who will join up with the Malta squad early next week as they prepare for Wednesday's UEFA EURO 2004™ Group 1 qualifying game with Slovenia, confirmed that the new deal will keep him at the German club until the end of the 2003/04 season.
'They believe in me'
"I have signed a new one-year extension to my actual agreement with Kaiserslautern, after agreeing terms with club chairman Rene Jaeggi last Wednesday," he said. "I am really pleased that Kaiserslautern have extended my contract by a further year. This means that they do believe in my abilities."
Unbeaten run
After a slow start to the season, Kaiserslautern recently enjoyed a 12-game unbeaten run in league and cup, which saw the club reach the DFB-Pokal final, where they will face newly-crowned champions FC Bayern München in Berlin on 31 May. However, Kaiserslautern are not yet safe from relegation, and lie five points above the relegation zone in eleventh place.
First-team appearances
Mifsud has scored one goal in his 17 first-team appearances this season, and has been included in the squad for Sunday's important home game against SV Werder Bremen.
