Hungary round-up: MTK closing in

Members

MTK Hungaria moved to within a point of league leaders Ferencvárosi TC with a narrow win.

Ferencvárosi TC's advantage at the top of the 1. Liga was cut to a single point as Siófoki BSE earned a 2-1 victory.

Late penalty
Siófok had taken the lead midway through the first half, as defender Zoltán Schwarcz put the home side in front after 17 minutes. It had seemed that Ferencváros would earn a draw after Brazilian midfield player Leandro's 49th-minute free-kick equaliser, but former Ferencváros striker Zoltán Fülöp converted a penalty two minutes from time to give Siófok all three points.

Narrow win
Second-placed MTK Hungária FC took full advantage of Ferencváros’s defeat, earning a 1-0 victory at home to Debreceni VSC. International midfield player Gábor Zavadszky scored the only goal of the game after 13 minutes, finding the net from captain Béla Illés's pass.

Scoreless draw
The other game in the championship play-off group ended goalless, as Györi ETO FC drew 0-0 at home to Újpesti TE. In the relegation group, meanwhile, Sándor Torghelle's goal three minutes before half-time gave Kispest Honvéd FC a 1-0 win at home to Videoton FC Fehérvár.

Resounding wins
Elsewhere, Dunaferr SE suffered a heavy home defeat, as goals from Zoltán Vincze, Norbert Kovács and two from György Tóth gave Békéscsabai EFC a 4-0 win, while Krisztián Kenesei also scored twice in Zalaegerszegi TE’s 4-1 home win against MFC Sopron.
