Ferencvárosi TC held on to their one-point lead over MTK Hungária FC in the Hungarian first division after a 2-1 win against traditional rivals Újpesti TE.

Late comeback
Despite a fine performance from Ferencváros, visitors Újpest gave themselves hope of reviving their own championship hopes when they went ahead 17 minutes from the end through Tibor Tokody's long-range effort. But Zoltán Gera levelled the scores three minutes later and then set up substitute Alexander Jovic to score the winner ten minutes from time.

Coach's praise
After the game, Ferencváros coach József Garami said: "Since I became coach here, the team has never played better than [they did] in the first half. We had the chance to win the match before the break, but we only produced a result in the second. The pace of the match was sensational."

Illés double
MTK secured a 3-2 victory at Györi ETO FC to remain in the running. The home team led 2-1 with 19 minutes to go, but MTK captain Béla Illés then scored twice in four minutes to take his season's tally to 18, and secure European football for his side as they moved eleven points clear of third-placed Újpest.

Bottom three lose
Dunaferr SE remain bottom as they succumbed 3-2 to Zalaegerszegi TE, having led twice. The basement club were reduced to ten men after 79 minutes when József Zsók was sent off. Békéscsabai EFC are a point ahead of Dunaferr after losing 3-0 at Videoton FC Fehérvár, while Kispest Honvéd FC remain in trouble following a 3-2 defeat at MFC Sopron. Fourth-placed Debreceni VSC drew 1-1 with Siófok FC.
