Barry Town AFC moved to the within touching distance of lifting their seventh League of Wales title after defeating Cwmbran Town FC 2-1 at Jenner Park on Easter Monday.
Akinfenwa double
Only a major slip-up from Kenny Brown's side will give second-placed TNS Llansantffraid FC the chance to pip them to the championship. Barry had to overcome an early deficit to consolidate their position at the top after Cwmbran took an early lead when Mark Dunn tucked away a cross from close range, but two goals from Ade Akinfenwa gave Barry the crucial three points.
Intertoto spot
Third-place Bangor City FC, for their part, qualified for the UEFA Intertoto Cup by securing a 2-2 draw against Caernarfon Town FC. Last-placed Llanelli FC, meanwhile, were defeated 2-0 by Aberystwyth Town FC. It was the 24th defeat in 33 matches for Leighton James’ side.
Bartley decisive
Afan Lido FC are now certain to finish in the top eight, defeating Port Talbot Town FC 2-0, with top scorer Kevin Bartley on target twice.
Reconstruction job
Elsewhere, mid-table Caersws FC edged past ten-man Newtown 1-0 courtesy of Graham Evans’ goal while Carmarthen Town FC manager Tomi Morgan faces the prospect of rebuilding his team, in 15th spot, this summer after his side went down 2-0 to Haverfordwest County AFC.
Euro blow
Rhyl FC’s hopes of European football faded away as they lost 2-1 at home to Connah’s Quay Nomads FC and stayed sixth following goals from Tommy Mutton and Gary McCosh.
