Scotland round-up: Rangers close in on treble

Rangers remained on course for a domestic treble after booking a Scottish Cup final place while league rivals Celtic FC lost at Hearts of Midlothian FC in the Scottish Premier League.

Tense semi-finals
The Ibrox club will face Dundee FC in the final at Hampden Park on 31 May after both sides emerged victorious from tense semi-finals. Rangers defeated Motherwell FC 4-3 while Dundee were narrow 1-0 victors over Inverness Caledonian Thistle FC.

Early lead
Dutch defender Bert Konterman's second minute goal gave Rangers an early lead, but the SPL's bottom side equalised through Steven Craig on 15 minutes and then took the lead in the 27th minute when James McFadden scored with a fierce shot.

Partridge own-goal
Rangers drew level soon after half-time through Michael Mols before Lorenzo Amoruso added a third goal. An own-goal from David Partridge put the score beyond doubt although Derek Adams reduced the arrears with the last kick of the game. Dundee advanced to the final for the first time since 1964 thanks to Giorgi Nemsadze who stabbed a right-footed shot into the net on 78 minutes.

Title hopes
Rangers’ hopes of wresting the league title back from Celtic increase when Hearts defeated the UEFA Cup semi-finalists 2-1 at Tynecastle.

Dying moments
Henrik Larsson put Celtic into a lead, but a goal from Phil Stamp and a 20-metre shot from Austin McCann in the dying moments cemented the Edinburgh team's chances of gaining a UEFA Cup berth for next season. The result left Rangers eight points ahead of Celtic, having played a game more. The two sides meet in the league on 27 April.
