Ferencvárosi TC moved four points clear at the top of Hungarian First Division after recording a 2-1 home win against nearest challengers MTK Hungária FC.

First-half strikes
In the first match since the league divided into championship and relegation play-off groups, Ferencváros’ Brazilian midfield player Leandro opened the scoring after 16 minutes, although MTK captain Béla Illés equalised 20 minutes later with his 16th goal of the season.

Contrasting penalties
Péter Lipcsei restored the home side’s lead from the penalty spot five minutes past the hour, and Illés missed a golden chance to equalise for a second time, as he was unable to convert a penalty. MTK could not find a way back into the match and the home side were able to survive the second-half dismissal of Zsolt Bognár to earn the win.

Goalless draws
The other games in the championship group both ended goalless, with Újpesti TE held at home by Siófoki BSE and Györi ETO FC earning the same scoreline at Debreceni VSC in a game in which Györ’s Krisztián Füzi and Gábor Vincze of Debrecen were both sent off.

Three for Megyesi
In the relegation play-off section, Békéscsabai EFC moved off the bottom of the standings with a 3-1 win at home to Kispect Honvéd FC. László Megyesi’s hat-trick secured an important victory that enabled Békéscsaba to move above Kispect, whose only goal was a 51st-minute Zoltán Hercegfalvi strike.

Penalty goals
Elsewhere, goals from former international forwards Norbert Tóth and Attila Korsós earned Videoton FC Fehérvár a 2-0 win at home to champions Zalaegerszegi TE, while Ference Lengyel’s 68th-minute penalty cancelled out Ilja Javrujan’s first-half spot-kick as Dunaferr SE drew 1-1 at MFC Sopron.
