Article body
Ferencvárosi TC moved above MTK Hungária to take over at the top of the Hungarian First Division thanks to a 1-0 defeat of Videoton FC Fehérvár.
Tight at the top
The victory ensured that Ferencváros moved to the top of the standings on 48 points, one clear of second-placed MTK, who were held to a 3-3 draw by Dunaferr SE in a thrilling encounter.
Slow start
After a slow start that saw both sides struggle to settle, Ferencváros midfield player Attila Kriston broke free to score the decisive goal, finding the net with a powerful left foot-shot after cutting in from the left.
Dunaferr comeback
MTK, meanwhile, raced into a three-goal lead against Dunaferr but could not hold on to win. MTK went ahead in the 11th minute when Hungarian international midfield player Béla Illés scored from close range and Gábor Zavadszky doubled the advantage four minutes later.
Remarkable revival
When Illés made it three on the half-hour there appeared no way back for Dunaferr but experienced midfield player and captain Ferenc Lengyel reduced the deficit before half-time. Lengyel's second in the final minute levelled the match after Balázs Nikolov had scored Dunaferr's second.
Play-offs
Siófoki BSE also caused a shock by securing a 1-0 victory against defending champions Zalaegerszegi TE courtesy of an Ákos Koller goal seven minutes from time. The win means János Csank’s side have qualified for the sixth championship play-off place alongside Ferencváros, MTK, Újpesti TE, Debreceni VSC and Gyõri ETO FC.
Sumudica double
In other games, Romanian striker Marius Sumudica inspired Debreceni to a comfortable 3-0 win against Békéscsabai EFC, scoring once in either half after Gábor Vincze had put the visitors ahead. Gyõri also won away from home, overcoming Kispest Honvéd FC 2-0 with goals from Marko Kartelo and Aleksandar Bajevszk, while Újpest won 1-0 at MFC Sopron.
