Veteran coach Benny Lennartsson has returned to Viborg FF following the sacking of Søren Kusk.

Veteran coach Benny Lennartsson has returned to take charge of Viborg FF after the bottom club in the Danish Superligaen today dismissed previous incumbent Søren Kusk.

Disappointing season
Viborg, who have tallied 23 points from as many games, are two points adrift of Silkeborg IF. Akademisk Boldklub, AGF Århus and Køge BK all have 26 points. Lennartsson has signed a contract with the club until 30 June, having previously coached Norwegian side Viking FK, Bristol City FC in England and Lyngby FC in Denmark. The 60-year-old takes over a side which has won just five league games all season.

'On the right track'
Kusk, who took over from Kim Poulsen in October 2001, said of his sacking: "I have been very happy to work for this club and I am pleased about the support I have received from the squad. I think we were on the right track, but I was obviously aware of the risk of getting fired with our present position in mind."

'Poor timing'
Despite their perilous league position, Viborg are on the verge of the Danish Cup final, having reached the semi-finals with a resounding 5-2 win against Farum on 9 April. Kusk feels that should have counted in his favour. "The timing is poor as we're going through a good patch at the moment," he said. "If we win on Monday [at Esbjerg fB] we could have turned the corner and there's still 30 points to play for. I would have liked to have been given that opportunity."
