Article body
Laze Mitrevski has been named as the new general secretary of the F.Y.R. Macedonian Football Union (FSM). He replaces the caretaker general secretary Ilija Atanasovski.
Financial problems
The FSM has gone through a series of structural changes recently in an attempt to improve the quality of the country's domestic and international game. The small Balkan country is facing chronic financial problems which have led to a significant decrease in the standard of football at all levels.
Difficult task
"I will do my best to raise the quality of the FSM. I am aware that I am facing a difficult task, but I hope that our combined efforts will lead to a successful reform of football in Macedonia," Mitrevski said.
Former referee
The 45-year-old Mitrevski became a referee in the former Yugoslavian top flight in 1979 and continued refereeing until Macedonia's independence in 1992. After that he became a member of the FSM executive board until resigning three years ago following disagreements with the then president Lambe Arnaudov.
