Article body
FK Austria Wien preserved their 13-point lead at the top of the Austrian Bundesliga despite suffering a surprise 2-0 home defeat to struggling VfB Admira Wacker Mödling.
Challengers falter
Nearest challengers SV Pasching also slipped to a 2-0 defeat at Grazer AK, with goals at the end of either half from René Aufhauser and Roland Kaufmann earning GAK the points.
Markovic on target
Meanwhile, Admira took the lead after 32 minutes through Dejan Markovic, but the home side twice went close to equalising as Erik Akoto's effort hit the crossbar before a Thorstein Helstad free-kick came back off a post in the second-half. Michael Hatz sealed the points 16 minutes from time, rounding off an Admira counterattack.
Early excitement
The win moved Admira above Schwarz-Weiss Bregenz, who slipped bottom of the table after a late equaliser gave FC Kärnten a 2-2 draw. László Klausz handed Bregenz the lead after just three minutes, only for Alois Höller to equalise within two minutes. However, Axel Lawaree's 17th goal of the season seemed to have earned the away side three priceless points, but Heimo Vorderegger scored a second equaliser for Kärnten three minutes into injury time.
Home wins
SK Sturm Graz missed the chance to move third after slipping to a 2-1 defeat at SV Ried. Ibrahim Sidibe scored a goal in each half for the home side to cancel out David Mujiri's 49th-minute equaliser, while first-half goals from Alexander Schriebl and Heimo Pfeifenberger gave SV Austria Salzburg a 2-0 win at home to SK Rapid Wien.
