Brazilian striker Sonny Anderson gave French champions Olympique Lyonnais an important 1-0 win at FC Girondins de Bordeaux on Friday to open a five-point gap at the top of Ligue 1.
Six wins in a row
With five games to go Lyon, who have won their last six matches, are on 60 points. AS Monaco FC and Olympique de Marseille, who share second place on 55, are playing away on Saturday at AC Ajaccio and ES Troyes Aube Champagne. Bordeaux, who had won 12 of their last 16 games and had only lost once in 2002, stay fourth on 54.
Juninho free-kick
The goal came on the hour when Bordeaux goalkeeper Frédéric Roux, standing in for injured French international Ulrich Ramé, could only palm a Juninho free-kick on to the post and Anderson, sidelined by injury for several weeks, slipped the ball home.
'Pressure on our opponents'
"We are now in a more comfortable position and the pressure is on our opponents,” said Lyon coach Paul Le Guen, “particularly Monaco and Marseille, but we shall have to keep our confidence and our rhythm for the last five games."
