Article body
Norway recorded their second home Group 2 win in four days as they defeated the Netherlands 2-0 at Mandal's Idrettsparken.
One change
The Olympic champions made one change from the side which thrashed Belgium 6-0 on Sunday, Ane Stageland replacing Marit Fiane Christensen in the centre of defence. Norway adopted their traditional 4-3-3 formation and immediately made their class tell, although they had to wait until the 26th minute for the opening goal. It was worth the wait, as 25-year-old Anita Rapp scored with a brilliant header from 14 metres.
Rapp again
The same player was again in the right place in the 40th minute, finishing from close range following a sweeping Norwegian move. Norway continued to control the match after the break and missed two excellent chances to extend their advantage through Trine Rønning and Heidi Pedersen.
'Good start'
A crowd approaching 2,000 in Mandal were appreciative of Norway's efforts, as was coach Åge Steen. "We have had a good start and hopefully we will beat Denmark in our next match [on 11 September] before we leave for the [FIFA] World Cup," he said. "We should be in prime form by then." Steen reserved extra praise for Rapp, saying: "Anita was very good today, she is especially good in one-on-one situations."
