Böhme staying with Schalke

FC Schalke 04 have agreed a new contract with winger Jörg Böhme that will keep him at the club until 2006.

FC Schalke 04 have agreed a new contract with winger Jörg Böhme that will keep him at the club until June 2006.

Staying put
The German international's present deal had been due to expire at the end of the season and there was some concern over his future after recent difficulties between player and club. However, club manager Rudi Assauer said: "We sorted everything out. Jörg now knows what we expect from him. And we don't expect miracles."

Cup success
The 29-year-old left-sided player has been a major influence at Schalke since arriving in July 2000. As well as helping them win the German Cup in 2001 and 2002, he has seen his international career flourish.

Proven winner
"We have always been convinced what Jörg Böhme is capable of," Assauer added. "He is a crazy lad with genius and madness very close together sometimes. But he is difficult to predict and so he can decide a game alone."

Happy to stay
Böhme, whose former clubs include TSV 1860 München and DSC Arminia Bielefeld, said: "I feel happy with Schalke. The team and the fans have always supported me. This has confirmed my decision."
