John Joe Maguire offered Newry some hope when he levelled seven minutes into the second half and home chances of victory increased when Bangor goalscorer Rogan was sent off ten minutes later following a confrontation with Brian McCrystal. Newry pressed hard with the extra man and nine minutes from the end scored what proved to be the winner, Robbie Brunton converting a penalty awarded after Ryan McLaughlin brought down Maguire.
