Article body
Mário Reis will return as coach of Gil Vicente FC at the start of next season after the club could not agree a new contract with current coach Vítor Oliveira.
Tough challenge
Having coached the club in the 1980s, Reis has taken on the challenge of coaching them again, but with Gil Vicente enjoying perhaps their most successful season ever under Oliveira, the former Boavista FC coach knows he has a tough task if he wishes to emulate his predecessor's achievements.
Ambitious plans
"The idea is to have another season like this one," he said. "I know that's difficult because some important players will possibly leave at the end of this season. I'm aware of the club's situation. I'll do anything to prevent the possible exits and make a strong team to correspond with the club's ambition. They have done an excellent job this season."
European finish
Currently in fifth place in the 1.Liga, Gil Vicente are only three points adrift of fourth-placed Vitória Guimarães. They have a realistic chance of claiming a higher position but after two seasons at the club, even the prospect of European football could not persuade Oliveira to stay and coach the club for another season.
